With the changing political climate in Burma/Myanmar, governments, businesses and NGOs are seeing increased opportunities to engage in a variety of ways. The purpose of this blog is to help the international community and our friends in Burma keep up to date on Japanese ODA initiatives in Burma and their social/environmental repercussions.

This blog contains updates about specific projects, opinion pieces, press releases, and event announcements.

Mekong Watch is a Japanese NGO that combines research and advocacy to address and prevent the negative environmental and social impacts of development in the Mekong Region. As such, we are concerned about the role that the Japanese government and businesses play in the name of development in Burma, and the impacts on the livelihoods of local people.  While we expect Japanese ODA to have increasing impacts on local people and the environment in Burma, there is little information available in English. We hope that this blog will help to fill some of that gap.
